Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer: Bach Trio Sonata No. 6 in G Major
I just ran across this video and it is awesome.
Most everyone here has likely heard of Cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Maybe a few know mandolin player Chris Thile from the acoustic folk group Nickel Creek. Lesser known is bassist Edgar Meyer, but the Tennesse native is an amazing musician in his own right spanning the Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, and Jazz musical genres. He's played with a long list of A-List musicians including James Taylor, Allison Krauss, Bela Fleck, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nickel Creek and more.
So imagine if you will, what you happen if these three guys got together one afternoon in James Taylor's "Barn" recording studio. Magic happens, pure and simple.
The three are releasing an album of Bach Trios that were originally written for Violin, Cello, and Double Bass. Here is the first "single" Sonata No. 6 in G Major, BWV 530: I. Vivace. Give it a listen.
The album is available for preorder from Nonesuch Records as a CD/MP3 combo for $14 or as a 2 LP/MP3 combo for $23. The album entitled Bach Trios can be ordered by clicking Bach Trios | Nonesuch Records - MP3 Downloads, Free Streaming Music, Lyrics
