I suppose they send out all the Beta updates to battle specific bugs and glitches that owners have reported. Usually all those little fixes are included in the Official updates. I have a pre-release BDP-103 with the original firmware, and have yet to update it. I haven't seen the need.

Another firmware update, this time for the BDP-105 specifically.

New BDP-10x 60-0808B Firmware Released. This firmware will correct a long standing, but not ignored, issue where the Dedicated Stereo and XLR outputs on the BDP-105 would not be properly applying a Down-mixed Stereo signal, adds multi-file CUE support, adds new compatibility with the updated iPad MediaControlHD, and fixes issues with the player not sorting files and folders from SMB shares properly.

You can find the firmware, release notes, and upgrade instructions at: https://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-103/BDP103-firmware-60-0808B.aspx

Does the oppo automatically download the latest firmware or you have to go to the menu and get it?

I have it hard wired with a cat6 cable going to the oppo from my router.

If your player is connected to the Internet, the player will alert you to all "Official" firmware updates. You will see the notification on the screen, after you power on the Oppo. It will give you the option to install or ignore the update.

This latest one is what they call a Beta update. It addresses a specific issue/s that have been reported. I usually do not do the Beta updates, as they will include all of them in the official firmware updates. I think you have to manually check for the Beta updates.

Tracy is right. You can set your Oppo to notify you when a update is available, but this does not work for the Beta version. You must go into the etup menu to do this. I have learned that if the update is not needed, if I have no problems, i wait for the official version.

I too wouldn't worry about the Beta updates unless I had an issue, which I haven't.
