If you are a subscriber to Tidal's high definition lossless music streaming service, there's a new update for your Oppo BDP-10x Blu-ray player.

Here are the details from Oppo:

We are happy to announce the new 79-0711B Beta Firmware for the BDP-10x family line of players. This firmware contains the long awaited integration of TIDAL high fidelity music streaming, improved compatibility with user generated media files and other bug fixes and enhancements.

Please note, that as a Beta Firmware, you will need to manually install the firmware by downloading it off of our website and using the USB or CD upgrade methods. Please also note that this is for North American customers only. If you are in Europe or Asia, you will need to wait for your respective regions to release this firmware.

You can find the firmware release notes and upgrades instructions by going to the following address: http://oppodigital.com/blu-ra…/BDP103-firmware-79-0711B.aspx
Keep in mind, this is still Beta, but I haven't known Oppo to release anything that would "brick" your player.

    Anyone using Tidal?

Yes, I'm using it but I'm frustrated like a big dog trying to get it to work with OPPO.

Part of my frustration was not knowing how it was supposed to work.

You can't just do the update and think you can connect to Tidal with the OPPO like you can with VUDU or anything else.

I installed the Beta to the OPPO and got a screen telling me to "scan the QR"? Huh?

So finally I ignored the screen and tried to connect with my Ipad. While trying to get my log in information into the ipad I kept getting a "device disconnected" part way through my log in attempts which kept starting me over.

I finally got in by using the voice to text while logging in so I could go fast. Boom, Tidal came up on the ipad but the video from the OPPO stays on the same "scan the QR" and never changes.

From the Ipad I tell the music to play. The sound came through the OPPO and my main speakers but I'm still not where I can get the videos there.

The Ipad APP works ok with the OPPO except attempting to change "input". It doesn't do anything with that.

Anyway, I'm glad to be getting the sound through the OPPO but am I glad I have to use the IPAD with it?

    In a word. NO

Can I live without the videos?

    No, that's just really crappy.

Overall? Love Tidal and love it more through my HT speakers.

JR, I apologize if you already know this.

QR stands for Quick Response Code. It looks something like this.

If the Tidal program works like YouTube, you scan that with your iPad and it opens a browser that allows you to control the Tidal app. If you don't already have the app on your iPad, there are free QR reader apps for the iPad.

I have it working better now. I believe the connection problem with the app was having the OPPO on a different wireless radio than the Ipad. I have 2 home wireless channels.

The OPPO APP is working with every function including the input menu that wasn't working before.

I'm now seeing the song album cover on my HT screen but it does not seem to be designed to view videos.

The scan was not necessary. Just download the OPPO Master Control APP from Apple.

It's good to hear that you have it up and running.
