Two questions for you to think about....I hope

I am not a strong proponent of lists because they are often made to be silly. What are your favorite movies? Well, there has to be ten, not eight or twelve, certainly 27.

What are the “best movies?” You mean those are not your favorites? Is Casablanca better than the Godfather? I can tell you that “Ghandi” is a better movie than “Bull Durham” but I have Bull on Blu ray and don’t even have Gandhi on DVD.

So let me ask you two questions:

First, one someone comes over and says, they’d like to see a movie on your home theatre, what do you show them? Is there a particular movie that impresses the? I have a couple. There can be more than one answer.

Finally, I am not asking necessarily for your favorite movie, but what movies have you seen the most?

    Best Thriller - Psycho,

    Foreign Movie - The Killer,

Best silly movie - Bill & Tedd's Bogus Journey, Airplane

Best Science Fiction - Star Wars

Christmas Movie - A Christmas Story

Best Epic - Lawrence of Arabia

Trip, that was not quite the questions. I didn't ask what was your favorite or best movie.
    1. What movie do you turn on to show off your system?
    2. What movies have you seen the most?

    My Answers:

What movie do I use to show off the system?

It depends on who it is,, many of my friends have no interest in Sci Fi. But the beginning of Superman (Extended version) is a winner. BUT, I’ll tell you the real topper for a great system. Not Star Wars, but the Empire Strikes Back! The blacks are so black, the silver ship is wonderful; and the sound is great.

Recently my friends brought their cousin to spend a day. We turned on Empire for ten minutes and left the room. When we returned, his mouth was still open and he said, “Why do you ever leave your house?”

For other serious people, Lawrence of Arabia, Raiders of the Lost Arc and ben Hur are good. But, honestly, almost anything looks good.

These are the movies I have seen the most, often because they are often on Cable: (Now these are NOT necessarily my favorites, but what I have seen the most.)

    A League of their Own
    Casablanca
    Citizen Kane
    Doctor No
    Fantasia
    From Russia With Love e
Godfather I and II (NOT III)
    Goldfinger
    King Kong
    Koyaanisqatsi
    Singing in The Rain
    Star Trek II
    Superman
    Terminator II
    The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad

BTW, based on your Star Trek discussion I finally broke down and ordered the Star Trek Motion Picture Collection on Blu-ray. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow and I'll give the first film a spin.

    Thanks for the clarification.

For my friends who like to hear the sub, i put on "Jurrasic Park".
For general sound appeal, I put "Master and Commander".
For visual appeal, "The Dark Knight".

As for any movie I can watch over and over again, any 007 movie!

Master and commander is a great movie. Sadly, it does have a great soundtrack, BUT, the movie opens in a fog so the visuals are not as vibrant as I would like in a demo.

For a visual demo, it's truly hard to be the satellite images and overhead landscape footage from Planet Earth, on Blu-ray.
