Concealed Weapons Now Legal in All 50 States

    from newser,
"Gun-rights groups scored a major victory today: Illinois had been the last state where carrying concealed weapons was completely illegal, but a federal appeals court struck down that ban today. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has given state lawmakers 180 days to write a law legalizing concealed carry, reports the AP. "

The State of Illinois won't give up that easily. This is very likely to go before the Supreme ones. In order to avoid a constitutional battle over Second Amendment rights, my guess is that the Illinois Attorney General will argue "state's rights" to overturn the 7th Circuit Court's decision.

Unfortunately his argument won't work. Gun rights are spelled out in the constitution (plainly, I might add) and since it is, the right doesn't fall to the states. In fact, I believe the language says

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Assuming that the court upholds the written word of the constitution instead of interpreting intent, yes. Remember that Illinois (especially Chicago) has had in place severe gun restrictions for a long time (as has New York). Remember also that the court is changing and that President Obama has four more years to stack the bench (so to speak).

What's more telling is that Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C. have had the most restrictive gun laws in the entire nation yet the highest rate of gun crimes in the nation. Those gun laws really must work!

Gun control advocates never mention Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C.

I don't think guns should be necessarily concealed. Let's just strap them on our hips and get the appropriate carry permit.

Totally agree Tracy. Put 'em in the open and the hoodlums will think twice about trying to rob you.

Yeah, that's right; we're going baackwards to the ol' cowboy days when if you didn't like them, hell just shoot them. Now it's like the Wild Wild West. Gay marriage will soon be the law of the land. Marijuana will be legal. This world is going to the dogs. We might have to outsource ourselves to another country.
