What stop at hammers? Let's see the number of people who are killed in auto accidents, by drunk drivers, die of cancer because of smoking.

JJJ: We all know that Fox News is Republican slanted news. Youn can always find "a source" that can twist things to your liking. A perfect example: David quoting this mental crackpot, Alex Jones. Next, someone will quote Adolf Hitler, or Osama Bin Laudin, Kim Jung Ill.
Tracy: This Fox News quote is a joke. Drunk Drivers killing people? Not much of a comparison. Drunks are not targeting people to kill. They have a major problem with the bottle that eventually leads to a DUI. In other words, it's not premeditated.
Lung cancer? Another unfair comparison. Although I have NEVER smoked a cigarette, it is, by all accounts, addicting. These millions of people put blinders on and pretend it can't happen to them. At first, they think it's cool, later they cannot quit. What has this to do with dangerous weapons? Are people addicted to assault weapons? It's certainly possible, but probably not a majority.
Tracy: By all accounts you are one of these "gun nuts". Doesn't that slant things a bit? Although, many years ago, I shot the M-16 at basic training at Fort Dix, NJ. In the past, I shot other guns on the range such as the 44 magnum, 45 calibre, certain rifles. I never hunted anything. I have no compulsion to own a gun/rifle, much less using it. Since most people (that are not mentally ill) own guns for various reasons. Legally, I believe that it's OK, to own single shot guns/rifles as what was available when the 2nd Amendment was ratified. I think that legit citizens should be OK with this. We have to draw the line somewhere. In my mind, no one needs assault weapons to go hunting or target shooting. Show compassion for the many murdered adults & children. I suggest that we curb any desires to own these weapons. If nothing else, do it for our children/grandchildren, please. Those of you who go under the NRA philosophy: You will have to pry my weapons out of my dead fingers! What kind of message is this sending? Put the children first.
To the collector gun nutz out there; you have a right to own single shot weapons as long as you are not a mental case, or have prior convictions. We need to do a much better job of finding, identifying, and taking appropriate action before a situation gets totally out of control. I really object to the gun nuts whos attitude is: I will buy, own, shoot any damn weapon when, where & how I want to, and no one will tell me otherwise.
This attitude reminds me of motorcycle owner's who just refuse to wear a helmet for their own protection. They are so adament about this, that they overlook their own damn safety. Why should we have to force them to wear a helmet? Should we just allow them to not wear helmets and splatter their brains & limbs all over the roads? Ultimately, we must pay for this. Their medical care should be on them for their stupid decisions. Unfortunately, we get stuck paying for their mistakes. Lets show common sense.Jeffrey S. Albaugh

My point was more about a conscience choice. People who drink and drive, smoke do so with intent. Maybe auto accidents was not the best example, in this case.
As for me being a gun nut, I am an enthusiast for sure. That being said, I don't own any of the weapons that are deemed assault weapons, nor do I own high capacity magazines. I don't have a use for them myself, but I also do not have an issue with reasonable people owning them either. It's determining who's reasonable that's the true issue that we all can agree on.
I don't have the solution, I sure wish I did.

Tracy: I'm certainly glad to hear that you are not into assault weapons. What is a reasonable person? When it comes to people with assault weapons, people are going to die. How do we know the sanity of all citizens? Our system is overloaded. We just don't have the manpower to chase down, followup on all these potentially dangerous people who might be on the brink of exploding. Now we have another killing spree in Aurora Colorado, on the heels of Sandy Hook. Is this ever going to stop? There are copycat murderers. This phenomenum is spiraling out of control. There will be more. Look at the patterns. So far, the gun control laws are not changing. That means more of the same. Since Sandy Hook, more guns have been sold then ever before. It's going from bad to worse. Are we going to see any anti-gun legislation?

When the source starts with Fox News - your "paper gets a D" with me.
Seriously, are you telling me that you need an assault rifle to protect your home? More than one of them? Are you telling me you need a clip that holds 30 rounds? Are you telling me that you need armor piercing bullets designed to kill cops to kill deer?
The gun lobby are a bunch of pussies. They are out of touch with reality and much like most of the religious right - are unwilling to compromise. In the end, gun control will be more severe than it had to be because the NRA made it this way.---

The Republicans had their chances to pass meaningful gun control, but they blew it. The Republicans marched out a line of retarded ol' candidates from Rick "senile" Perry, "Bitch" fundamentalist Bachman, Rick Sanitorium, NitWhit Romney. R U kidding me? What a laugh. You guys deserve Obama. The Republicans lost seats in the house & senate for good reasons. Look in the mirror. Let's face it; the Republicans screwed up big time. Stop your moaning & groaning. You deserve everything you got. After George H & George W was nothing but a cruel joke.
Look at our gun laws. (Chicago also). How can you call these gun laws? They are a dissfunctional joke perpetrated on us by the NRA (Nutcases Running America). We have 30 million + assault weapons in this country! A disease. Take all those assault weapons away and give them to our military. Mental illness in this country? It runs rampant. Not nearly enough resources to identify the lunatics, before they go nuts. Send your NRA to the middle East. A perfect match. We have NO gun laws. It's lawlessness. How many more Americans, children will be killed as a result of these lunatics allowed to run free with assault weapons. Next, the NRA will want all Americans to carry hand grenades. This is total lunacy. Don't you just love their slogans: When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns; If you want my guns, you'll have to pry them from my cold dead fingers. Only these NRA/gun nutz could have an attitude like this.
Get rid of this worthless gun laws, and lets pass meaningful gun laws to protect our citizens & children. Otherwise, this lunacy is continuing. Let's send the NRA & the gun nuts packing! (take away the weapons that they are packing!)Jeffrey S. Albaugh

No meaningful changes in gun laws will be passed because there's BIPARTISAN support not to make any changes. Read the following:
Strassel: The Real Gun-Control Consensus - WSJ.com
The next time you hear a fellow American bemoaning the lack of Washington bipartisanship, tell him to cheer up. There is one issue on which Congress still resoundingly agrees: gun rights. Bear that in mind, too, the next time you read a story about the "new" political debate over gun control.
