Toshiba's 2012 HDTV Line: What to Expect
Toshiba's 2012 HDTV line will focus on edge-lit LED and CCFL LCDs. While the company has offered active 3DTVs in the past, this year it will focus on passive 3D technology in its higher-end models. (Toshiba says that it will release glasses-free 3DTVs this year, but I'm still skeptical. The CES demo was better than last year's but still not at the level it probably needs to be.)
Before I break down the different series in the line, here's a look at a few new features:
ePortal with MediaGuide
Toshiba has redesigned its Web portal and user interface. The new MediaGuide uses Rovi data to help find and organize content, while SearchAll improves the search function across TV channels, streaming video, and your home network. A full Web browser is offered on select models, and a new Android-based tablet app will be available, which includes the Send&Play function to share content between the tablet and TV.
Audyssey Sound Enhancement Technology
Audyssey technology will be included in all of Toshiba's 2012 TV models, including Audyssey EQ, Audyssey ABX, and (in some models) Audyssey Dynamic Volume to eliminate sudden volume changes.
Aero Family Design
Most of the 2012 Toshiba LED TVs will sport the new Aero Family Design, with a thinner bezel and a "silver wing design along the bottom of the display."
