HomeTheaterEquipment.com Alexa Ranking (3 month)
Guys,
We had this thread over at HomeTheaterSpot.com as a relative gauge on the success of the site from when we took over from the past owner. That guy when the site was successful as a CRT and video calibration site had the number down to about 11,000. That's amazing and a feat we couldn't repeat with the Spot. Too many errors. CRT was dead. Video calibration wasn't the topic that it was in the past. When we BOUGHT HomeTheaterSpot.com it was basically abandoned with an Alexa ranking of 830,000. We got it down to the mid 60,000 range. Note: Below 100,000 is very good. All of the good AV forums are well below 100k (AVS is like 5k, HomeTheaterForum.com is around 25k and HomeTheaterShack.com is aroud 50k the last time I looked).
HomeTheaterEquipment.com is BRAND NEW thus Alexa (Amazon.com's ranking system) is now seeing all of the new people pour in. Hell, at this point HTE doesn't have even CLOSE to 1 month's worth of stats on Google Analytics. That's pretty damn NEW but we are growing NICELY.
HTE's Alexa ranking started at 1.4 million.
In about 2 weeks, its down to 408,000.
That's pretty good.
Anything over 100k is still pretty high but going from 1.4m to sub-100k is not the type of growth ANY site sees in 30 days. Will we get there? Without question.
I will keep you guys informed as the number improves.
It also help for you to have Alexa Sparky (small plug-in) installed when you view the site. I do this in Firefox.Last edited by HomeTheaterEquipment; 11-15-2011 at 02:04 PM.

Very nice numbers. I am encouraged at the number of new registrations we get each day.

We haven't accomplished anything yet other than setting up this playground. It seems to be a good one.
It will be fun to track its success from a relative perspective. We don't get AVS, HT Forum or HT Shack's numbers other than through Alexa thus it gives us a benchmark.---

Its taking BIG bites every few days when Alexa updates. Note: we've got a long way to go.
Its MUCH HARDER to leap frog sites when you get higher in the rankings but its FUN to watch for now.
I don't know if we will ever get to 11,000 like HomeTheaterSPot.com when it was once a viable site but I'd like to see us compete again with the other forums. This HTE site has a LOT of advantages that the Spot never had.---

Well, we're starting to get some good users posting. The more registrations and users, the better this site will become. What was lacking at HTS was that many good members were driven out, and after a while not enough remained. Hard to be a viable site when the knowledge base just wasn't there to answer questions!
Jerry - maybe time to remove "HTS" from your sig?

In its heyday, HTS was loaded with good contributors: Chuck Williams, John Kotches, Kris Deering, Chad Varnadore, etc. Having a good core of contributors is the key to success.

Those guys were the past. Long gone. Seemingly not on any forum. I've called and emailed them all to invite them back to the Spot since buying it. Either "life went on" or they aren't in the video calibration business anymore.
The guy that was EXILED was Ralph Potts which was a MAJOR MISTAKE in the past but we have Lynn now who has more experience as a movie and home video reviewer. She now has a staff of FOUR PROFESSIONAL Blu-ray reviewers to work with. We are only ONE WEEK into that new level of content.
Our new staff is better.

The KEY is GROWTH. Will new people sign up? We've sure made it easier.
The other forums we compete with have MAJOR "long tail" or back catalog content. We don't have as much but we have MUCH better organization, new threads, topics and enthusiasm. That's where I plan to build from.
Let's see....---
