I bought a really inexpensive powered HDMI splitter and put it on the output of my HD DVR.
One output from the splitter goes to the pre/pro in the main theater. The other goes into my Onkyo AVR in the family room. It works really well so far.

So get this....
DirecTV came to install their service today. Here are the details:
• The subcontractor couldn't speak English very well.
• He didn't have an HDMI cable.
• He refused to run the DirecTV service high enough on the wall to hide it with the TV and to keep it out of the grasp of my 1-year-old.
• He left a TOTAL mess in my professionally cleaned place.
• He refused to run wiring to our 3rd bedroom because we didn't order a Genie (small one) unit.
I love DirecTV and have been a client since 1998 but they are sucking it here. Rest assured this goes into the review.

Jerry: If the DTV guys or phone lady gives you a hard time, tell them that, OK, I'll just switch to FIOS or somebody else.
