I am trying to buy this pair from an inside source of mine.

I think I might get them restored and put them on display at our new offices.

I am not a HUGE McIntosh fan but they are a KEY part of audiophile history. Fully restored under low voltage light they could look really cool. Antiques with style.

What do you think? What should I pay? Should I keep them?

I saw an episode of How it's Made, I think it was. They had a tour of the McIntosh plant and showed them making new glass faceplates for some of their older models. Apparently the refurb business is good.

I wonder if they would be better redone or in orig. condition?

I once bought a C26 or 28 preamp and 2105 amp for $400 out of the want ads (seems that was all a local AVS offered for them!) I played with them for a bit but wasn't at all happy with the sound so sold them on A'gon in like 30 minutes for $2,400. Great ROI! Their are companies like Audio Classics that specialize in older/vintage Mc gear, I'd call them if you have any questions.....

I might want to keep the amp in my office for more artistic/historical purposes.

    Expensive sculpture, I guess.
