URC Introduces Three New Complete Control Remotes

URC Introduces Three New Complete Control Remotes
New arrivals include URC’s first water-resistant remote control, the MXW-920.

Indianapolis – CEDIA EXPO 2011 – Booth 3240 – September 8-10, 2011 – URC, The Pioneer in Control Technology, has unveiled three new Complete Control remotes: The MX-1200, the MX-780 and its first water-resistant remote, the MXW-920.

“URC is the CEDIA channel leader in remote controls, and these three new devices raise our profile even higher,” said Doug Cole, senior vice president and general manager of URC. “In particular, our dealers have been asking for a water-resistant model, and we’re excited to deliver it with the MXW-920.”

All three of the new one-way wand remotes offer both IR and 418MHz Narrow Band RF operation, and are PC programmable via URC’s Complete Control Program (CCP) software.

The MX-1200 offers a 2.4-inch color touch screen LCD and three interchangeable hard buttons. Its free-form graphics are similar to those of URC’s popular MX-980 remote. The MX-1200 is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery; a charging cradle is included.

The MX-780 is a hard-button remote control with a 1.5-inch color OLED screen. Comparable to its close relative in the Complete Control family, the MX-880, it additionally offers Red, Green, Blue and Yellow hard buttons. The MX-780 is powered by four AA-size alkaline batteries.

The splashproof MXW-920 features a monochrome LCD that displays text. Its water resistance rating is JIS Class 4, IP-class 54, which means that splashing water from any direction will have no effect on the MX-920. Programmed just like URC’s well-regarded MX-900 and KP-900 devices, the MXW-920’s one-way RF design is similar to that of the MX-900 but with improved transport functionality. The MXW-920 is powered by four AAA-size alkaline batteries.

The MX-1200, MX-780 and MXW-920 will ship later this month at prices to be determined.

Hmmm ... maybe I've finally found my replacement for my 8 or 9 year old trusty MX-500 remote? The URC MX 780 seems to be getting good reviews thus far.

I have NEVER been treated worse by a company in the AV business than URC.

If they treat publishers like this - expect worse as a customer.

PBC - there are a TON of other remotes. Hell, I'd buy a Harmony 100 out 100 times before I buy anything from Universal Remote Control. Sorry.

Their new remote looks a lot like the modern Harmony's too.....

I for one use all Harmony's jun my home and they work great and as a reviewer who swaps gear around a lot it's nice to be able to quickly and easily reprogram the thing!

Same here. Had an issue with my MX-500 (light) 1 year out of warranty, paid $20 and they replaced the entire remote (with a new MX-500 that had a better "click-type" center entry button vs the original floating button that was annoying). The darn thing works and looks like brand new, 8 or 9 years later.

In 15 years as a publisher - I can tell you I have NEVER dealt with a worse company.

ANYONE on this site complaining about a bad experience - you've been warned.

DO NOT BUY UMC Remotes. Period.

Personally, I can't stand Harmony remotes. Don't like the feel of them, and most friends I know that have had them find they start to "wear" after 2 or 3 years. Hard to move from a company that I haven't had an issue with for 9 years now and the remote still works like new. I also have an RF20, also works like a charm in my master bedroom.

Doesn't seem like there are many other options in the $150 to $200 range outside of Harmony and URC/HTM.

    How about RTI?

I used one at a cabin at Muirfield Village in Ohio this spring. Pretty damn good. Nice feel.
