    Drum Video Demonstrates Acoustics

We all know that our listening/viewing room makes a huge difference in the sound we hear. Those looking to improve their sound usually spend a ton of money on new equipment, when improving your room's acoustics can make all the difference.

Here's a cool video that demonstrates this principal really well. In the video French drummer Julien Audigier uses the same simple drum kit, to play the same song, in different natural acoustic environments. “No artificial reverb added,” he stressed. Just a kick, hat, carpet, and snare.

For those who read French, here's his site. The Wikidrummer… | Wikidrummers

After watching this video, I would say that the special effects were pretty damn good; actually better then the drumming.

I think the point was more about how environment changes sound.

It's been a few years ago, but I remember a story on NPR about one of the sound engineers at Abbey Road Studios. He was responsible for the sound of many of The Beetles albums, recorded there. He described opening the door to another room during part of the recording of the vocals.

Basically it was a large room adjoining the studio, that was used to add reverb to the vocal track. Pretty interesting to read how they used practical solutions for the digital filters we use now.
