Best 65 or 70 inch HDTV?

    Hi guys,

A relative of mine is interested in getting a 65 or 70 inch HDTV.

I suspect we can't get a 1080p (2016) model in the 65 inch and above HDTV.

We can get Ultra HD Premium 4K sets in this size for HDR capability as well as for the rival Dolby Vision which is HDR10. (yes, another standards war??)

    No curve tv.

    Any recommendations?
    Main:
Samsung UN75F8000 LED TV, NAD T-777 (7.2 Receiver), Oppo 103 Blu Ray Player, Sony PS4 Gaming Console, Panamax MR-5100 Surge Protection, 7 Paradigm Reference series 8" in ceiling speakers (AMS-150R) - 30 degree tilting speakers, 2 Paradigm SE Subs. Pictures here.

I'd look at the Value Electronics shootout and buy the best TV from that group that's within the budget.

I believe the LG OLED won.

But my only concern with OLED is image retention or burning like in plasma..

Is there a way to circumvent this image retention problem?

    JJ,

i have and recommend the LG Oled TVs. I have the 55 curved and it is great. It is not a 4K because I bought it two years ago.And I got a curve because I needed one to fit in a certain spot.

Just one important point. As the TVs have gotten thinner the speakers and sound systems have gotten worse. If it's not hooked up to a stereo or surroundsound system I would also recommend getting a sound bar which can run as little as $100.

If you take a look at the time I posted at about the same time that you asked the question about image retention. I have had no such problem with that at all. The only thing I don't like about the TV it's it's remote control which does not have aFull slate of buttons including channel buttons from 1 to 10. However with my universal remote I have all the buttons and I almost never use the one that came with the TV.

Thanks Barry for the details. Good to hear you are not having image retention issues on an OLED set.

The one that won the shootout is very pricey. LED65G6P which is $7K

    LG OLED sets are below.

Looks like for 2016, it is all 4K.

    Anybody know what "Picture-on-Glass" is?

I use their Web OS and Smart TV functions. For that you must use their remote. I get Netflix and Amazon Prime and the pictures are very good, although not as good a a blu ray. Every couple of months it does upgrade.

I understand that Picture on Glass does not give a better picture but makes a slightly thinner TV screen. The screens are so much thinner now that I would not have the need for anything thinner.
