Since we're calling out DIY - I might as well add that I also built my HTPC and my 20TB NAS server.

I've wanted to build a NAS. Everybody says, "Just use an old desktop computer". The problem is mine is probably too old.

I assume that since you're using a HTPC, the miniDSP is providing all your EQ and room correction.

David, what are your plans for the miniDSP?

I'm going to use it on my subs and actually test it with 4 subs in the room:

    SVS PC Ultra
    HSU 15H MK2
Dual JL Audio Dominion D110's configured as "mid-bass" modules with a frequency cutoff of 30Hz (or so, depending on the measurements).

I'm going to see if I can get a flatter frequency response this way. My room has a dip at about 40Hz or so and I'm hoping that configuring mid-bass modules will flatten out the response from 80Hz down. I just need to find the 10 hours or so that it will take to do all the measurements and testing! Furthermore, the house needs to be silent during that time, which is the second biggest hurdle.

I don't know about that...I used an old Core 2 duo and it worked just fine. I've since upgraded that to a quad core q9300 and I have the parts to upgrade that still to a i7 990x (extreme 6 core, 12 thread machine).

Oh and here's a picture of the DAC kit. Name: dackit.jpg

That's an Xmos board, dac board, case, and the big orange square thing is the Burson Supreme v5 opamp. The dac will do sample rates up to 768khz and 32bit rate.

I may have to check the solder joints on the left RCA to make sure they're good. It hasn't happened often - but every blue moon, the left side will not product as loud as right. I'll go and pick it up or let it run silent and then it works fine. My son's solder skills are better than mine (so are his future wife's....I'm going to need them when I try to DIY a speaker....they already know about it!!!! Son likes to wood work too )!!!!!

It works well with 4 subs in the room. I'm using two SVS 16-46's and 2 AE P1152's! A good piece of test material, the "Amaze" lossless Atmos demo. The thunder should literally shake your foundation (there are actually two thunder scenes - the first one is a different type of bass than the second - both are impactful...but in different ways).

Which miniDSP unit are you going to use and which application? I would have loved to have gone the Dirac route, but too rich for me....for now. I went conservative and went with a 2x4 and 2x4 advanced plug-in. Worked great in my situation!
