The Edge of Seventeen (Blu-ray) review

The Edge of Seventeen is an honest and hysterical look at what it’s like to grow up as a young woman today. Nadine (Steinfeld) and Krista (Haley Lu Richardson, “Ravenswood”) are inseparable best friends attempting to navigate high school together. But then Nadine’s world gets turned upside down when she finds out that Krista has been secretly dating her popular older brother (Blake Jenner, “Glee”) behind her back. Now with her best friend as her worst enemy, Nadine has to deal with being an awkward loner, while discovering that what may feel like the end of the world is really just the beginning of growing up.

    My Thoughts
I saw the trailer for this a while back and it made me laugh-out-loud, so I figured I’d give this a shot. My wife read the back cover and didn’t want to watch the movie with me figuring it was a “stupid teen comedy.” Needless to say, she had crow for breakfast the next morning because she loved it—as did I. Hailee Stenfeld is perfect as the lead, although we really didn’t like her character that much (we think that was the point), but the supporting actors were all superb, especially Woody Harrelson as the “dry and honest” history teacher who Nadine turns to for help when her life is thrown into a tizzy. These moments are hilarious and can be quite touching too with his brutal honesty.

    Blu-ray Video (4.5/5)

    Audio 4/5 (DTS-HD MA 7.1)

    Special Features:
    · Gag Reel
    · Deleted Scenes
    · DVD + UV Digital Copy EB6Gecy6IP8

This one is definitely a sleeper hit and is more than worth of your time investment. 95% of critics liked it on Rotten Tomatoes, and include me in with that bunch. In fact, it’s the best comedy I’ve seen in a long time—far too long, in fact. Definitely put this one on your watch list. Highly recommended.
