Doc Martin, Season Eight

Doc Martin is a British TV show that began in 2004. It has done very well in America where it is streamed, bought on DVDs and airs on several PBS stations. Martin Clunes stars here as Dr. Martin Ellingham.
In this comedy drama, Clunes play Dr. Elingham is a doctor in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn (filmed on location in the village of Port Isaac, Cornwall,) England. He is a great, dedicated doctor who has a fear of blood, a theme important to the series. He is also a curmudgeon , a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person who can be outrageously funny.

Of course the town he lives in is filled with many funny, interesting and even complex people.

The show has now been on for eight seasons, doing about 8-10 episodes every other year. They let their characters develop; the Doc meets a woman, played so well by Caroline Catz. There is a romance, a marriage and a baby.

Frankly the first five seasons were the best, seasons seven and eight were interesting but not as compelling, but I enjoyed this season more than last.

The scenery is part of the show, it is a beautiful seaside village. This is a fun show that I have just enjoyed. If you watch it, try to see the first three or four episodes. They explain a lot, but it starts slow and takes a while to introduce everyone and get rolling. For a TV show the images are 8.5 out of 10 and the sound an 8. While all seasons are available on DVD only the last few are available on Blu Ray

Clunes had played a Dr Martin Bamford in” ‘Saving Grace” and two other movies. While that inspired this role, it’s not at all the character here.

The show is set in the with most interior scenes shot in a converted local barn.
