Movies that I love: Movies that made me cry.

My next installment of "Movies that I love."

Well, I guess I cried when my mother took me to see Bambi, but as an adult I have shed a tear rarely.

I think every man in the movie theatre; me too, teared at the end of Field of Dreams. I lost my dad when I was 14 and I have an 8mm film of us having a catch. And I am a Yankee fan. So that final scene got to me.

Toy Story II: "When She Loved Me" Sarah McLachlan. It’s hard to believe that you get get a lump in throat when a animated puppet tells her story, but it got to me. And I know the secret: The writers actually write the puppets from the perspective of a PARENT. That is, as kids grow older they need them less. You feel it here.

Schindler's List: I held it in until the last ten brilliant minutes. I can never watch the end of the movie without tearing up.

I write this now because it surprised me. I of course was saddened when I saw the worn Carrie Fisher in the Last Star Wars movie. I even noticed she did most of her scenes sitting down. But when the screen read, “In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher,” I just thought that she was our princess too. I am no great fan of Star Wars and don’t relate to a lot of it. But Carrie, may the force be with you, always!

From Toy Story II: Read the lyrics and see that it is very much what a parent could think:

    When somebody loved me
    Everything was beautiful
    Every hour spent together
    Lives within my heart

    And when she was sad
I was there to dry her tears
And when was happy so was I
    When she loved me

Through the summer and the fall
We had each other that was all
    Just she and I together
Like it was meant to be

    And when she was lonely
I was there to comfort her
And I knew that she loved me

    So the years went by
    I stayed the same
But she began to drift away
    I was left alone
Still I waited for the day
When she'd say I will always love you

    Lonely and…

I got bit teary-eyed at the end of the last Toy Story where Andy's toys found a new home.

When Dobby died in Harry Potter, although I had read the book series, also got to me a bit.

Movie can hit me emotionally too...Barry's example of Jesse above is definitely one--what a sad song! Another one was in Toy Story 3 when all the toys were headed to the incinerator...gets me every time. Anyone see the movie Beaches? Geezus...where's the Kleenex? The last movie to hit me like this was Wonder when the Mom is picking the kid up from school and he has a friend coming over for the first time--made both my wife and I tear up.
