lot of news yesterday about this..
from jalopnik.com,
The Ford Fusion, Focus, C-Max, Taurus, and Fiesta—all on the way out in North America as Ford transitions its lineup to one that is all but entirely dominated by SUVs, crossovers and trucks, the automaker announced today.
In the coming years, only the Mustang and new Focus Active mini-crossover will be in Ford’s North America lineup, Ford said today in a Q1 financial report.

I know the current trend is for trucks and SUVs, but I suspect we will continue to see gas prices rise. Ford may regret dropping most of their more fuel-efficient models.
I know from recent car research/shopping, many of the Japanese automakers are dropping most of their V6 engines. I don't think it's even an option with 2018 Honda sedans. Toyota still makes one model of the Camry that has a V6 option.

when gas prices go up, they maybe in trouble. Folks will dump their SUV's and other bigger vehicles and opt to go to a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle. Time will tell.
