I believe that Kris Deering has one in for review for a future issue and it's supposed to launch this summer.

    David,

Is Sound & Vision the magazine you were referring to? I've seen Deering's articles in S&V.
I went back and re-read your article on Samsung UBD-M9500 (S&V Dec 2017).
Does anyone have a transport to compete with OPPO's?

Panasonic...some say it's better than the Oppo as a disc player, or at least equal. But it doesn't do all of the stuff Oppo does (SACD, DVD-A, video processor).

I would imagine that DVD-A and SACD support is going to be tough to find in a new player, moving forward.

There simply isn't enough interest in those formats for a big company like Panasonic, Sony..... to care.

    David,

Well, I can't buy either at the moment. The UB-820 hasn't been released and the BDP-203 is currently unavailable from Oppo, I refused to pay the inflated price from others.

I would rather buy the newer Panasonic UB-820 when released. The idea of buying an out of production player is a gamble.

The lack of DVD-A & SACD isn't a deal breaker for me. What's important to me are timely firmware updates, built-in support for major streaming services, long term maintenance support for the player and video performance, at least, equal to the Oppo.

The Panasonic is for sale now. Value Electronics just got in about 200 of them.

My player prior to my Oppo was a Panasonic. I really liked it but it was so slow compared to the Oppo. In all fairness, the Panasonic was much older and the Oppo was just released.

I would buy another Panasonic without hesitation.

Before the Oppo BDP-83 I owned a Panasonic as well (can't remember the model number). It worked well, but was slow. My neighbor is still using it to this day! (He doesn't watch 10 movies a year).
