A previously lost 1963 recording of his music is set to be released later this month. The album which is now entitled Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album was recorded two years before Coltrane's masterpiece A Love Supreme. A NY Times story reports that in the years leading up to A Love Supreme, Coltrane and his quartet recorded eight albums for Impulse! Records. For some reason, one of these albums was shelved and forgotten until 2004.

The family of Coltrane’s first wife, Juanita Naima Coltrane, recently discovered his personal copy of the recordings, which she had saved, and brought it to the label’s attention.
The new album is set to be released on June 29th and will contain seven tracks, two of which have never been heard before.

I have a few of his albums on CD and will most likely grab this one on vinyl. Are you a fan of John Coltrane?

John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones (aka the J.C. Quartet) were considered to be at the height of their musical careers during this time. Sadly he died in 1967. I would have loved to see him perform in person.
