New Tom Petty Box Set & "DR"

I've rarely if ever seen this before, but the cd box is DR8, the hi-res official download is DR11; so they are 2 totally different masterings.

Petty was one of the most DR aware of rock artists. I got the #'s for the cd set first, & thought "now that TP's gone, it appears the rest of the band doesn't care about sound quality". Apparently what they're actually doing is giving cd buyers the loud, screechy sound they've become accustomed to, & targeting their audiophile audience with more moderate compression. Works for me; though being more transparent about this (& not giving any advance notice on if there's even going to be a hi-res release) is still at the top of my complaint list.

I did a pre-order on the Hendrix Electric Ladyland cd/blu set due to a pricedrop. If there ends up being an hr download where the cd (16 bit) only material is available in 24 bit & we get no notice, I am going to be furious.

Re EL, I emailed AS, HDT, Sony & Experience Hendrix. HDT & AS didn't know (& said they won't know until the last minute); the other 2 didn't bother writing back.
