GoldenEar Updates Triton One (Triton One.R Now Shipping)
Sandy Gross and the gang at GoldenEar have been in the press a good bit and it's not just me Fanboying them.
Most recently, the company has just announced an update to their Triton One speaker. Before the release of the new Triton Reference, the One was their flagship tower speaker. Over the past year or so they have updated the Triton Two and Threes and now it's time for the One.
The Triton One.R takes the original design and upgrades it from the inside out. Visually, the One.R looks more like the Reference by replacing the black sock covering the speaker with the same high-gloss piano-black lacquer finish. Internally, the structural bracing has been beefed up, Dacron acoustic dampening material added, and tweaks to the crossover and DSP.
All these (and more that I didn't mention) bring the performance of the One.R more in line with that of the Reference.
Here are the Specs:

Tracy, did you get the R model? A salesman at my local Listen Up said he could not hear any difference between the 2 and the 2+ so I'm not going to upgrade.

Would love to own one but sadly too large for my installation.

What's your opinion of that center speaker? It's their largest one, right? (Xmas is coming.)

Yes, the XXL is the largest of the SuperCenter line and I absolutely love it.
Every center that I have ever owned sounded small. It's not been a power handling issue and at least with my last center, it wasn't a question of the speaker ever distorting. They just sounded small. Voices sounded a bit like you were speaking with your hands cupped around your mouth and the midbass was slightly lacking.
With the XXL, I get nice full-sounding vocals and the speaker sounds more in line with the size of the main left and right.

I'm thinking of getting the middle one, $800. The large XXL is a bit over my pay grade.
