Aquaman a review: With a few very small spoilers

Aquaman a review: With a few very small spoilers

I saw Aquaman in Imax and in some ways this is a difficult movie for me to review. David, I think will like it because:

    1. The Photography is just beautiful at times. The Special effects were done by Disney’s ILM so Disney has a hand in all Super-Heroes now!
    2. Lots of Action sequences
    3. The surround sound was great

If you like super-hero type movies, you will probably like this one. If you don’t, well, you won’t. There is nothing terribly original here and I did not feel any suspense or curiosity.

    Small spoiler Alert section:
The movie opens with a demonstration of Aquaman’s powers. Then his origin is told, he is the son of an undersea Queen and an regular guy, which, of course, gives him the power to live underwater and to deflect bullets! Aquaman’s half-brother, a royal prince, is trying to consolidate the seven realms of Atlantis and have them attack the surface world. Guess who is in his way?

The actors seemed appropriate for their roles but I was often too busy looking at the scenery. The movie was not a waste of time, I do give it a thumbs up and parts were fun. If you don’t have a big screen at home, see this in the theater. If you do, the 4K will look spectacular. If you know what I mean, I have seen this movie before.

    Barry’s Notes:
If is always common for comic book companies to copy the success of a competitor. Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman, Hawkeye a copy of Green Arrow, Quicksilver a copy of the Flash. Marvel’s first comic was published in 1939. In it was a tale by Bill Everett about the Sub-Mariner. It was very popular. So a couple of years later DC introduced Aquaman with a similar origin. (But Aquaman could talk to fish.) This movie lifts from the Sub-Mariner’s first revival story in Tales to Astonish #70 (1965); The Thor/Loki relationship and the trident here is a copy of Thor’s hammer.

It is better than Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Justice League. I give it a grade of a "C."

I have never heard of Sub-Mariner but I knew going into this thread you were going to educate me.

So according to the above photos, Sub-Mariner is a thief who steals an airplane (he's also lazy because he can swim) and he comes to America to participate in espionage (he wants to cause trouble) against the white man (he's also a racist)? He doesn't seem like a nice guy.

On the other hand, poor Aquakid gets thrown into a tank of Swordfish who seem intent on skewering him (child abuse victim). I can see why Aquaman has his own feature film and Sub-Mariner has been left out.

If you score it better than Batman vs Superman, I'll give it a watch. I didn't think that BvS was great but it was entertaining overall.

First, Subby was a better read. He was the first Anti hero. But, created during WW2 he joins with the allies and fights the Nazis.

in the 1990s Marvel sold the movie rights to Subby and the Hulk to Universal. The first two Hulk movies were produced by Universal. Noticed there has been no more Hulk movies since then. He can appear in Marvel movies, but cannot have a movieof his own. So is true for Subby and Marvel dors not want to promote a chararacter they cannot own.

Very interesting Barry. I'll wait for this one to come to home video before watching it. The trailer didn't do much for me. I guess I'm more of a Marvel guy versus a DC guy.

    man. aquaman.

its weird because i really enjoy Jason Momoa in Frontier, a netflix show.

not that he's not enjoyable as Aquaman, but the character and the movie do nothing for me.

maybe its because i watched this, Bumblebee and Spiderverse within a weeks time, with the later two being far superior movies. IMO.

stunning visuals and sound are true, but when those lead ur reasons to see it, u have a problem.
