Sesame Street has always tried to embrace and explain kids that have physical challenges. It's good for them to know that some kids that look and are able to move normally have different challenges.
The gym where our daughter cheers has a special needs team. The team is made up of kids that have a variety of physical issues but some also have Down Syndrome and autism. It literally brings a tear to my eyes most every time they perform at a competition. The crowd really goes crazy and supports everything that those kids do. The team acts like it's the greatest thing they have ever done. It's really quite touching.
